What Is It about the Future?

futureAs bad for me as it may be, I constantly want to know my future.

It’s probably got something to do with my over-active planner gene that came into full expression sometime during college.

I understand the fear of the unknown, the anxiety that just wants to get to the “other side” so I know what I’m up against.

I find it impossible to not be compelled by the mystical allure of access to a time into which  I haven’t yet walked.  It feels magical and dangerous, which is why so many psychics have their tents made to look dark and mysterious–it awakens those feelings.

This is probably why the fortune teller, Madame Ovary of Moonlight and Oranges, made her scene where she frightens and astonishes Lorona into one of the most interesting and fun episodes for me to write in the whole book.

I’m intrigued with the concept of the future and what it costs people both to know it and to tell it. Most fortune tellers have a dark, shady reputation, whether or not they’ve done something to earn it.

My intrigue with the female fortune teller is so strong, another one appears in a new story of mine…A story which is going to be published!

I’ll have a cover to unveil in due time, but for now, I’m sharing the news that Tightrope is on its way to being born!

Tightrope is the story of a young man whose search for a summer job leads him to a touring circus and into a chaos where beautiful lights and magical performances mask something terrifying beneath.

Do you get stuck wondering about the future? When does it usually happen to you?

Elise
